http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/the-make-art-damnit-interview/ (Two Stars)
For this assignment I had to interview someone and ask them “why make art damnit?” I decided to interview my co-owner Liam because he is into art stuff. He sees many different uses for art and why it is important. I decided to ask him because I think he has a good perspective on the subject. He emphasizes that art is many different types of expression and people use it to express their inner being.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/5-second-film/ (four and a half stars)
For this assignment I had to make a five second film. I decided to make it funny and use my dog Dakota again. I dressed her up in my clothes like she was trying to be me and then made the sign to go along with it. She kept knocking the glasses off of her face but I eventually got the shot. She was a good sport while I was trying to dress her up.
For this interview I used a combination of the professor’s and Black’s questions to use. I think it was a good way to let people know more about myself and who I am. Hopefully my wife doesn’t see this or she might get a little jealous of Lena. Another reason I wanted to do this interview was to get out the word about the mysterious men meeting at my hotel to see if anyone had any information on them or know what they are doing here.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/survival-video/ (four and a half stars)
For this assignment I had to make a video of how to survive something. I made a video on how to survive an angry customer because that can be a big problem sometimes in the hotel business. Over time you get used to people being rude and learn better techniques of how to deal with them. This video is mainly for new employees so that they have a better understanding of what to do in this type of situation. Most of the time I would tell them to just come get me to deal with it, but they should also know the normal protocol.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/30-second-documentary/ (four and a half stars)
For this assignment I had to make a 30 second documentary. I chose to show the tricks that my wife Jane taught our dog Dakota. She taught Dakota to come on cue, sit, lay down, roll over, speak, and shake. We consider Dakota a member of our family and she makes us very happy, this is why I wanted to show her off in this documentary. It took a lot of tries to get this documentary just right. Not because Dakota wouldn’t do her tricks but because Jane used cheese as treats and she set the cheese on the table beside the space where Dakota was doing the tricks, so every time Dakota came down the stairs she would go straight to the table looking for cheese. Dakota was probably very tired after making this video because we had to keep sending her back up the stairs to shoot a new video.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/recording-a-memory/ (Two Stars)
For this assignment I had to take a video of someone recounting a memory. I chose to video Lena Meyers talking about her memory of going to see Scott and meet his family in Scott’s hometown. She met with Scott to follow up with him after the radio show and see his business and what his life was like. She also attended his family barbecue and got to meet the people in his life. This was a good memory for both of them.
For this assignment I had to tell a story using flashcards. I decided to have Scott tell the story of when he and his co-owner Liam visited El Jota’s night club. To make this video I wrote the flashcards and then recorded myself holding them up. Once I finished recording I realized that all the cards were backwards on the video. I then had to flip the video so that the cards read the right way. I also couldn’t show my face in the video because I am a girl and I wanted it to look like Scott was holding the cards. Here is the story of Scott’s visit to El Jota’s night club.
(three and a half stars)
For this assignment we had to copy a photo and change something about one of them and let people guess what the difference is. To make this photo I used the program paint. This is a picture of Lena Meyers radio studio, I chose this place for my picture because Scott and Lena became good friends after they did the radio show together. Often times Lena has to travel around to interview different people so she reaches out to Scott about the better hotels to stay at and he can sometimes give her discounts and in return she gives him publicity on her radio show. They usually meet at Lena’s radio studio to talk about hotel business and that is why I chose to use her studio as my picture.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/apophenia/ (three and a half stars)
For this assignment I had to find an object and then make different versions of the same object. I chose two pennies and drew different things around them to make them look like different things. I made the pennies into eyes, car tires, flowers, and basketballs. This relates to my character Scott because there is always change laying around the hotel desk and when business is slow he sometimes doodles around the change and makes pictures like these. This is how he entertains himself during a slow day.
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/storytelling-collage/ (three stars)
For this assignment we had to make a collage that tells a story. To make this collage I used the app “PhotoFrame,” to combine all four photos. This collage tells the story of a typical day in the life of Scott Brinkmann. He starts his day off by arriving at his hotel about 30 minutes before it opens. He then checks the guest book to see who will be checking in and out during that day. About half way through the day he heads down the street to his favorite deli where he gets a sandwich almost every day. For the remainder of the day he checks guests in and out and helps them with whatever they might need.
